DETROIT — Musicians on strike with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra are launching a concert series for the homeless on Wednesday.
The tour will host concerts at three Detroit shelters and is called “Let the Music Play at Christmas!”“Christmas is a season for giving. And although we have been out of work for several months now, we are giving what we can in the form of music,” said Gordon Stump, President, Local 5 of the American Federation of MusiciansEvery year the musicians of the DSO give $1,000 to COTS and $1,000 to St Patrick’s Church. This year, along with Local 5 the musicians donated $1000 for turkeys for the Metro-Detroit/Teamsters Holiday Food Basket project for out of work families. The following is the schedule of performances Wednesday:

The Tumaini Center, 3430 Third Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201, Noon – 12:45 p.m.
The Mariner’s Inn, 445 Ledyard, Detroit, MI 48201, 2:15 p.m. – 2:55 p.m.
The Ruth Ellis Center, 77 Victor Street, Highland Park, MI 48203, 4:45 p.m. – 5:25 p.m.

“Our 2010 holiday venue is not as ornate as Orchestra Hall. The seats are not as plush. Our tickets are not as pricey. But our audience is every bit as worthy,” said Stump. “That makes this our greatest concert tour ever.”
