Letter from Matt Mason
I am one of the ‘e’ donors to the DSO and have enjoyed supporting the orchestra over the years. Cancelling an entire season only puts the DSO in a worse position. Especially now as there is glimmer of recovery in the auto sector and some improved hiring prospects. To look for a comparable you only have to look at the Free Press strikes. Thousands of subscribers never returned to the paper after the strike. That radical restructuring may have had some short term benefits for the paper but look at it now: Little support and no content. It has never recovered from the strike and its strategic plan seems cobbled together.
Salvaging the season can be the start of a new collaboration with the musicians. Losing the entire season could be a blow the DSO will not recover from.
