Mission Statement

The mission of SOS is to promote and support the world-class artistic excellence and stature of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and to ensure its preservation in our community for future generations.

Save Our Symphony is made up of Detroit Symphony Orchestra patrons, donors, subscribers, business owners and community members.  We are passionate about keeping this great orchestra a thriving and vital part of the fabric of our city.

We are people who love great music and also recognize the economic value that this powerful orchestra brings to Detroit and Michigan. We believe so strongly in preserving the essential character and tradition of this world-class orchestra that we formed this grass roots organization.

In addition, SOS works to produce AVANTI Summer MusicFest, a pilot project conceived by The Musicians of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and collaboratively developed and supported by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Save Our Symphony. AVANTI, a six-day intensive summer experience for young musicians, culminated in a live student performance on the world-renowned stage at historic Orchestra Hall.

In the 2011/2012 season, and again in the 2012/2013 season, SOS contributed over $20,000 to the DSO. Individual donations were pooled to sponsor DSO Governing Members. These individuals work with the DSO in a substantive and hands on way, shaping strategy and fostering community involvement. They act as DSO boosters in the community, raising the profile of the institution and introducing new people to the joys of classical music.  SOS Governing Members are funded by your generous donations that go directly to the DSO and contribute to the organization’s fundraising goals.  If you are an SOS member, the SOS Governing Members represent YOU, the audience, in every important activity taking place at the DSO, from meetings and fundraisers to committee work and educational outreach.

Currently, SOS is soliciting donations to continue funding our Governing Members.  If you would like to add your voice to ours you can do so by donating here

Our website, combined with our social media presence on Facebook gives you a quick and easy resource for keeping up to date on events, trends, and issues important to orchestra audiences.
